Description
Muchalls lies south of Aberdeen on the north east scottish coastland and is renowned for its rugged charm. the dramatic rock formations, steep descents and crashing waves all add to its draw as a photographer's dream and the diverse geological offerings attract both amateur and professional geologists.
Great care has to be taken when descending the steep slopes as you can easily lose your footing when it is windy or wet.
The beauty and drama of Muchalls' beauty was also recognised by Franco Zeffirelli when he used the area as a backdrop to his film Hamlet.
This image was taken on my first outing to the beaches there, thankfully in good weather. I was completely amazed at the sheer variety of forms and colours of rock able to be seen just walking around on the beach. This is a place I definitely hope to return to.

Quite beautiful, Liz. I always say Mother Nature is the ultimate artist, but it takes a talents eye to see it.

So beautiful, looks almost like oil pastels, great shot and processing. f/v

Thanks Chris, nature's own painting! It was such a fascinating place to explore.

Beautiful metamorphic rock formation. VF. I just noticed you are in Aberdeen. My recently departed mother was born and raised in Glasgow, so I have strong affinity for Scotland. I have only been briefly in Aberdeen, as a child when we returned to visit family. Aberdeen that summer day was cold, blustery and rainy, as I recall, but to hear my mother speak of Scotland, that was not at all unusual.
Liz Alderdice replied:
Thanks Gary, the weather this year so far has been much as you describe it! When the sun does come out it is a lovely part of the world to be in.
