Description
Doing what it was built to do since the early 1800s, West Quoddy Head Lighthouse radiating its beacon light into the clear or foggy night sky at Quoddy Head State Park located on the easternmost peninsula on the United States mainland, Lubec, Maine by Marty Saccone
This image was recently published in the April 2016 issue of Down East magazine as a full page backdrop to an article titled "Fogged Over" about the replacement of automated lighthouse fog horns from sounding in foggy conditions along coastal Maine. Foghorns will now be "marine activated" meaning boaters and ships will now use their VHS radios to trigger a foghorn only if they happen to need it.
Maine lighthouses have always evoked that steady thrum of horn blasts up and down the coast throughout coastal fogs. The continuous musical and romanticized melody is now all but a nostalgic memory,...it will be sadly missed by many an old salt, mainer and local residents as it slips away into obscurity.
Many additional renditions of West Quoddy Head Lighthouse are available for viewing at marty-saccone.pixels.com as well as a complete gallery portfolio of coastal Down East Maine fine art photography by Marty Saccone

I love that fog lit light -- very beautiful. The grain gives it such a classic feel.
