Description
Spitfire Series
Portrait of an Icon
Iconic in presentation in both sight and sound the Spitfire lives on some 75 yrs after the design was completed. Many example still remain in flying condition supported by various enthusiast organisations all over the world. Many versions of this aircraft can be seen each year at the Duxford Legends weekend - the show opener is usually staffed by up to 12 Spits beating up the field in an unforgettable tableau of sight and sound.
This particular version, the Mk VIII, was operated by 145 Sqdn in Italy in 1944 mainly in the ground attack role. Now restored to full flying capability she is a regular attendee at European airshows and is maintained and flown by German ground crew and pilots - a touch of irony there!
