Description
Just look at the intent in those eyes! I included two pit bull dogs in my thriller titled River Bones. I had waited so long to find a dog the right color as those in the story to photograph. The other one would be lighter color. This one let me take one photo. When I raised my arm to rotate my camera, a low growl rumbled out of his throat. His tail stopped wagging. This is the only photo I got.
The American Pit Bull is a Terrier. It is believed they were originally bred by the Greeks who termed them canus molassi after the Molassi tribe of ancient Greece. These dogs were prized them for their strength and fierceness. Many "spin-off" breeds of this terrier exist today.
Pit Bulls have a bad rap in modern times because they have complicated personalities. They can be taught to be loving, docile and exceptionally loyal. They can be taught to be fierce and aggressive. All Put Bills have those capabilities and every emotion between.
When I researched Pit Bulls for my suspense/thriller, River Bones, I learned that no matter the temperament, Pit Bulls should always be kept on a leash when out in public. Because of their complicated innate or inbred aggressive tendencies from their origins, they still carry the gene for fierceness. Any unsuspecting incident can set them off, especially if they challenge another animal over territorial rights.
