While stationed in Germany I had some time off and went on a hike along the rhine. I slept across from this tiny castle one night . As my memory recalls this was a toll booth like on a major highway. In the days of this tiny castle the Rhine was (and still is ) a major water highway.

Glad to hear this image brought back some memorfies for you. A lot of the castles down the Rhine were used to collect tolls. There is still plenty of river traffic on the Rhine. Thank you for the comment.
