Description
If I had read the description of the Parlamento de Andalucia (Seville, Spain) more carefully, I would have seen "Open, By Written Application". But I didn't, so I ended up just gazing at the facade through a fence. I guess it isn't surprising given the political state in the world today. The morning was lovely however, so I didn't mind the walk. Plus it is across from the Basilica de la Macarena, so I was there anyway. The building where the parliament sits now is a Renaissance building that once hosed the Hospital de las Cinco Llagas (five wounds). Work was begun in 1540 in what was to become Europe's largest hospital. It was completed in 1613 and admitted patients until the 1972. In 1986 the plans for turning the building into the headquarters of Andalusia's parliament were drawn up, and the building was inaugurated as the seat of the Andalusian Parliament on 28 February 1992, the Dia de Andalucia.
