Description
Getting to Palenque is not easy. You have to want to go there, because it is not on the way to anywhere else. You need to take a plane, then a car and ride a few hours. When you get there, all your efforts are repaid thousandfold.
The experience of walking through this incomparable archaeological site in almost absolute solitude is difficult to convey in words. The heat the humidity, the cries of the monkeys in the jungle contrast with the exquisite craftsmanship of the Maya and their still working techniques to acclimatize their buildings which are downright dumbfounding.
This is a wide view of the Palace, with its unique tower, the Pyramid of the inscriptions, where king Pakal was buried under his impressive carved sarcophagus and the temple of the sun, one of the group of the cross with their characteristic wind whistles.
There is a color version of this picture.
