334th Fighter Squadron
One of the earliest of the US outfits sent overseas to England in 1942 the 334th were originally equipped with Spitfires. Moving quickly on to P47s and then P51 Mustangs the squadron known as the Fighting Eagles were in continuous action with the 4th Fighter Group achieving a significant number of ‘kills’ (210) operating out of Debden
Often tasked with ‘fighter withdrawal support’ for B17 and B24 missions this section of the 334th is seen homeward bound with the ship of Lt Bowers - ‘Sweet Arlene’ in the foreground.
