Description
Like a pair of white tennis shoes at a black tie event...
All of the other guests were dressed in their most colorful evening finery.
This site has interested me for years, every time I drive past. Each fall, the large birch tree at the edge of this field looses its leaves earlier than the other trees in the forest. I have returned to photograph this same image many times over the years, waiting for just the right weather conditions and light.
This is the farming community of Rose Valley in north central Pennsylvania, USA. The image was captured from Rose Valley Road, near the junction with Trout Run Mountain Road, 5 miles east of the town of Trout Run.
This photo was taken on October 23rd, 2009 from about 300 yards aaway from the tree line. It was shot with a Canon EOS 10D using a Canon EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L zoom lens set to 120mm. The shutter speed was 1/20th sec. and the aperture was f/6.7, ISO 400.

What an amazing palette of both colour and texture, Gene! Talk about mixed woodland, I wonder how many species are represented here... Love birch trees, and this capture! F&V#9
Gene Walls replied:
Thank you most kindly, Richard! I know that many of the green trees are our famous hemlocks, with a nice mix of maples, oaks and who-knows-what-else. I shot a nice "family" of birch near this spot. I'll post that photo soon. Best wishes, Gene
