Description
He Started writing rhymes in1979; as soon as he heard Rappers Delight, the first commercially viable rap hit. He thought: "I can do this". By around 1985, he had started a group called the Bonified Boys, which consisted of 8 rappers. He wrote most of the routines, though it didn't last long. Soon after he bought a Roland 505 drum machine and started programming beats to write raps to. In 1988, which is about the time I first met him as we recorded at the same studio, he started a crew with DJ Wacko and FE3 called Top Notch Productions or TNP. He started sampling on Casio keyboards and mixing it with Rolands, turntables and keyboards. Wow (Words of Wisdom), was the first song he ever had played on the radio. In 1991 he made a few beats for an MC Boys project called Hard Pack although the master tapes were lost. In 1992 he met E-Sharp and King Otto, and soon, they formed Elevators, which ended in 1994, the year in which he started the True Believers Crew, Which metamorphosed into a Crew Called Clockwise and dropped Rap Capsule on a Tribal Productions compilation. He has released 8 solo albums on tape as well as 2 or 3 Balcony albums. Balcony consisted of Specs and Textstyles, another Seattle MC. Through all of this he was constantly producing and writing, while keeping an eye out for new talent. You may not have heard of him yet, but guys like Specs Wizard and many others prepared Seattle, its Nightclubs, studios, and radio for the next wave of hip-hop from the Emerald City that did gain national recognition. He has also released Return of the Artist, The Long Awaited mega EP, Original Space Neighbors, Green Lover and the NW Hits, and gRAPhics. He has 3-4 albums in the works right now, Adding other elements of hip-hop culture in the mix, he also has been creating graffiti art and comics along the way as well. From every angle, and especially considering his longevity, Specs Wizard is a guy that only comes along “Once in a Blue Moon”. ~D.
