"On the Edge of the Marsh"

... A long sun-bleached pier spans
across the marshland at Jekyll Island
on coastal south Georgia...
The marsh grasses are golden
in the early Spring sunset light.
Wild vines climb
up the wooden boards
of the old walkway.
Clouds float over slowly
in the late evening light,
golds, yellows, peach,
and deep blues color the sky
with intense and dramatic colors
on the horizon.
The beach is just across
from this marshy plain
near the south end
of the island.
This pier is well-worn
and adds a wonderful element
to this grassy meadow,
spanning over the dunes
and beachfront
of this natural and beautiful island...
