Description
A dilapidated old tobacco barn sits abandoned in an overgrown farm field in North Carolina. The door left open and the porch roof collapsed, it is a mere shadow of it's former life as an important aspect to farming in this rural American countryside. Barns like this one dot the landscape here, a reflection of changes in the country. Built from logs and chinking, they resemble log cabins more than conventional northern gambrel style barns. A piece of Americana and history from a bygone era they were used for drying the leaves, and many still retain the pungent scent that seeped into the wood over many years of use. There has a been a push in recent years to save these unique historic reminders of the old days where farmland stretched for miles and miles.
