Beautiful paintings. I love the story that behind them as you look at the pictures. Remind me of Jamaica.

My daughter-in-law is from Saba and her childhood pet was a chicken. She walked him about with a string on his leg - LOL. Like all your paintings, this one is a wonderful portrait not just of the old man and his chicken, but of a beautiful people. V/F
Nicole Jean-Louis replied:
Hi, Carol! Mentioning, Saba, is very interesting. This island happens to be known as "The Unspoiled Queen of the Caribbean" because of its coral reef preservation and its underwater life purity. It must be a beautiful place to visit. Very amusing about your daughter-in-law having a chicken as a pet! That could be a great motif for one of your paintings, Carol. Thanks so much for your wonderful comment.

Nicole: I like your work !! Cock fighting is also legal in the Philippines. All the blood sports be it roosters, bulls, or human beings in cages beating each other senseless is a human phenomenon, and does not require an apology from anyone.
Nicole Jean-Louis replied:
Thank you so much, Roberto. You are right. Cockfighting is considered a cultural asset by some enthusiastic fans. It is a week-end past-time for men in the countryside. It involves betting at the side of the pit. Some arenas have seats for spectators. This spectacles is for the countryside as popular as baseball is for the United States. There is great pride for the competitors in winning a fight. As you said, Roberto,it is practiced in the Philippines; Philippines, a true haven of cockfighting. It is also practiced in Dominican Republic, in many Latin-American countries like Mexico, Peru,Brazil. Animal activists considering bullfighting as animal abuse, successfully get a ban on some part of Spain. Cockfighting will never be illegal in Haiti. It is a mainstream event of a cultural relevance.

Hi, Nicole~While I am sorry to hear that cock fighting is legal in Haiti, I still feel this is a fabulous painting!
Nicole Jean-Louis replied:
I am so sorry, Lenore. This proved that every country has its customary belief and tradition. This cock fighting practice has been accepted for generations. It is a subject of choice for many Haitian artists producing two or three dimensional works of art. Thank you so much, Lenore. I greatly appreciate your nice comment!

Nicole Jean, I like all of your paintings. I could not decide which one to add as a favorite because Ithey all appeal to me. The unique quality of your work is refreshing to my eyes, the colors reflect the natural, beautiful surroundings and figures. Thank you immensely for commenting on Curious Curtain. You have given me an idea for a new title for the picture. You did that before and I used it. (Smiles)... "Shine On". Anne
Nicole Jean-Louis replied:
Thank you so much, Anne. Very nice comments. "Curious Curtain " and your description, makes me laugh, though. Nalini's answer makes me laugh. I tried to go around Nalini's answer. Thanks, Anne!
