Description
A favourite place to visit is the area of salt marsh wetlands just east of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada near the community of Cole Harbour. Here, the Atlantic Ocean has created salt water inlets and coves with numerous little islets, a sanctuary for wildlife, especially migratory birds and the indigenous water birds native to the region. An excellent trail crosses the area, based upon an original railroad track bed which has been preserved to allow access to this pristine and unique area.
A little about me:
I'm Canadian, born and raised in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, with a long career in radar, communications, and computers.Retired at 74. Scion of a Grand Banks schooner captain and a merchant mariner,I love the ocean. I started using 35mm.color in 1950.Favourite camera was an Exakta Varex.Switched to digital around 1998. My favourite themes are the sea, oceans, coastal, villages, water, lakes, mountains, wildlife, sky, clouds, flowers, forests, the National Parks such as Cape Breton Highlands, Waterton, Banff, Jasper, Yoho, Glacier, Mt. Robson, Kootenay, Strathcona, historic sites, Nova Scotia, nature, scenery, landscapes, seascapes, birds and many more. I've written magazine illustrating them with my own photos. I love photographing whatever appeals to me or happens to catch my eye. Almost all of my images are of Canada, though I probably specialize more on the Atlantic and Pacific Coasts and the western mountains. But you'll find an assortment from the whole country, including some from several years in the Arctic and sub-Arctic regions back in the 1950's and 60's. I hope some of you will get some enjoyment from my efforts. Constructive comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Beautiful color, density and depth of field. I'd like to see a little more adherence to the "rule of thirds" and not have this lovely composition "cut in half" by a horizon line right in the middle of the photo. The horizon line also tilts slightly "down" at the left side so could be a bit straighter but that's nit pickin. I'm not a member of the group but it's stated purpose is to receive feedback from pro's and I've been at this for 48 years. Overall a lovely photo.
George Cousins replied:
Hi Dave, always happy to get a good critique. In both pictures, I did place the horizon near the center, though the sky portion is somewhat larger than the bottom. However, I agree it could be a bit lower. I guess I liked the proportions of sky and land and also used the trees to break up the horizon line. I'm usually very fussy about a straight horizon, but I find Photoshop's "leveling"line is a bit arbitrary when working with an uneven horizon like this one. The far shoreline has some beach areas backed by softwood forests, both of which are uneven, so it's tricky to decide where to split hairs. Thanks for the excellent comments, I'm always glad to get advice and ideas.
