The National Museum of the American Indian, located in lower Manhattan near Battery Park is dedicated to the Native Americans of the Western Hemisphere. The museum of American Indian has three facilities: Washington D.C., Maryland, and New York City. Specializing in the life, languages, literature, hstory and arts of the American Indian, the museum is the result of The National Museum of the American Indian Act which was passed as Public Law 101-185, introduced by U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye in 1989. The museum collection was acquired from the collections of the George Gustav Heye Center in New York City and the Smithsonian Institute.
