Description
New York Flatiron Building by Regina Geoghan. The Flatiron Building is located at 175 Fifth Avenue is NYC on a triangular block formed by the convergence of Fifth Avenue, Broadway and E 23nd Street. The building name was derived from the resemblance to the cast iron clothes irons in use at the time it was built. 21 Floor high, it was completed in 1902, then one of the tallest buildings in the city. The building is one of New York's most iconic skyscrapers and is designated a New York City landmark, a National Historic Landmark and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The neighborhood around the building is known as the Flatiron District with Madison Square Park across the street and other architectural treasures of the city within a few blocks such as the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Tower. The square north of the building is filled with table, chairs and umbrellas for public use.
