Description
Two young wolf pups learning their new voices howling. Pups are born inside a den of some sort. A den is sometimes a small cave or a hole dug out of the ground. All the wolves in a pack help take care of the pups. When the pups are very small, other pack members bring food to the mother so she does not have to leave the den. When the pups are a little bigger, pack members "take turns" bringing them food, playing with them and even "baby sitting." Once the pups are about eight weeks old, they leave the den. When the pups are born the entire pack is filled with excitement. It is well documented how much adult wolves love puppies and how every pack member contributes to their care and education. The alpha female will not allow any other wolves to come around when she whelps, not even the alpha male. This area is usually less than an acre in size, is near water, and is a place for the pups to play, romp, harass adults, and learn some their first skills. Gradually the puppies start eating solid food. The stages of development are in 10 - 13 days their eyes open. 3 weeks later the milk teeth appear, they start to explore the den. In four to five weeks short trips outside the den, begin to eat meat. About 6 weeks they are moving up to a mile from the den (with adult wolf). 6 - 8 weeks old most pups are weaned, traveling to rendezvous site. This area is usually less than an acre in size, is near water, and is a place for the pups to play, romp, harass adults, and learn their first skills. Gradually the puppies start eating solid food. 12 weeks old begin to travel with the pack on hunts (with adult wolves). At 15 - 28 weeks their milk teeth are replaced and 7 - 8 months: begin to hunt with the pack.
