Description
We took a trip down to the southeastern areas of North Carolina to visit beaches along her coast during December. Our first stop was in Wilmington, NC, to visit the coastal areas that surround that city. At the northern end of Wrightsville Beach in that city, I climbed a dune to see a couple and their dog headed toward the ocean. The dog was so excited to see the ocean and quivering with anticipation. He was given the command to sit, and he did while his owners laid the beach blanket and got situated on the sand and I noticed, through the lens, his red collar that looked new, what was probably his first Christmas gift. I captured this image of him longing for that water. But his first gift, was the ocean to him.
.....
Wilmington is a port city. It has much history and was settled by English and European Americans during the 1720's along the Cape Fear River. It is known as a Coast Guard city, a university town with the University of North Carolina Wilmington located there and also home to the USS North Carolina (BB55) battleship that is located across from the downtown. Their downtown area has a river walk along the Cape Fear River, with historic buildings, restaurants and shops for everyone to enjoy.
.....
While in Wilmington, we visited the various beaches along the city's coast. We first went to Wrightsville Beach which is east of Wilmington and part of Wilmington's Statistical area. The town consists of a beach island that is four miles long, an interior island called Harbor Island and pockets of commercial areas along the mainland.
.....
The northern end of the island is a marshy area and where Mason's Inlet is located separating Wrightsville Island from Figure Eight Island. It was this area we wanted to explore first for photo opportunities.
.....
During our visit to this northern most area of Wrightsville Beach, we came upon this dog sitting watching the waves as his owners got their beach blanket laid out on the sand. He had just received a gift of a new red collar to wear for the holidays. As he was waiting, you could sense his desire to get into that water. That experience, to him, was the real gift, being at the beach and playing in the water and I agree with him.

Such an evocative shot, Sandi. A delightful PoV shares his view of the sea. I wonder what is going through his mind? The strip of red from his collar is a lovely element............L/F
