Silky Terriers are a long haired, small breed of dog developed in Australia from two similar breeds, the Australian Terrier and the Yorkshire terrier Originally known as the Sydney Silky as the breed originated in the Sydney area, the official breed name in its country of origin is the Australian Silky Terrier, and although a terrier breed, it is placed in the Toy group of dogs due to its dimunitive size.
Silky Terriers are alert and playful dogs that require regularly grooming to keep their long silky coats in top condition.
