Description
This image is inspired by the magnificent funerary sculpture, "Mourning Victory," by Daniel Chester French, which commemorates the loss of brothers during the American Civil War. I imagine her submerged in healing blue water, surrounded by water lilies. She personifies deepest feelings of death and loss, followed by healing, regeneration and re-birth of the spirit. The original "Mourning Victory" resides in a cemetery, but I know it through the copy at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC.
