'I remember Mama's dressing room as a sanctuary of exotic warmth. She had so many beautiful clothes and magickal bits and pieces of glassware and porcelain. Teddy and I were only allowed into this room when Mama was there, and we were forbidden to touch any of the wonderful objects that were scattered about.'
'Mama and Papa had toured the Continent on their honeymoon; the dressing room was home to some of the particularly feminine things Mama had chosen for herself on that trip. My particular favorite was a carved and painted wooden box that always sat on the sunny windowsill in the corner by Mama's chaise longue, but Teddy preferred the purses made from the hides of real alligators. He would pretend to be a great hunter and swing an imaginary sword as he slew the fierce beasts just for Mama.'
'Auntie Rose would laugh and ask Mama if the chaise longue (which Auntie pronounced "chase lounge") was her fainting couch to be used when Papa said something that offended Mama's delicate sensibilities. Although at the time Teddy and I didn't grasp Auntie's meaning, we always laughed with her as Mama blushed prettily.'

Oh, now this is nostalgic - how very lovely. I especially like the buttery yellows in the fabric and the touches of blue throughout. Charming. v6
