Description
I was out early in the morning in Seville Spain, walking along Hernando Colon toward the Cathedral and the Alcazar when I saw the little sliver of the moon above the Door of Forgiveness at the Cathedral. The ideal location for the photo would have been in the middle of the street, and believe me I tried, but the auto drivers had different ideas about that plan of mine. So I ultimately had to content myself with this location! The Door of Forgiveness (Puerta del Pardon) gives access to the Patio de los Naranjos from Calle Alemanes and therefore is not really a door of the cathedral. The cathedral was built on the location of an earlier mosque from the time when the Moors ruled this area, and the lower part of the entranceway with its horseshoe arch was retained from the ancient mosque. The upper part of the portal, seen in this photo, looks more like it belongs to a California mission. The same moon shone over the land no matter who ruled it.
