Description
The patterns and forms of a wall and windows seem to be channelling the style of a Mondrian painting with monochromatic tones.
Pieter Cornelis "Piet" Mondriaan, after 1906 Mondrian (March 7, 1872 February 1, 1944), was a Dutch painter. He was a contributor to the De Stijl art movement and group, which was founded by Theo van Doesburg. He evolved a non-representational form which he termed neo-plasticism. This consisted of white ground, upon which he painted a grid of vertical and horizontal black lines and the three primary colors. Between his 1905 painting, The River Amstel, and his 1907 Amaryllis, Mondrian changed the spelling of his signature from Mondriaan to Mondrian. Proponents of De Stijl (or Neo-Plasticism) advocated pure abstraction and universality by a reduction to the essentials of form and colour; they simplified visual compositions to the vertical and horizontal directions, and used only primary colors along with black and white. Indeed, according to the Tate Gallery's online article on neoplasticism, Mondrian himself sets forth these delimitations in his essay "Neo-Plasticism in Pictorial Art". James, This is a fantastic find and has resulted in a great image. I've liked, favorited, and shared on Pinterest, Twitter, G+ and Facebook with the accompanying text: As a lover of black and white street photography I stumbled upon this little gem of an image and it struck me. The simple starkness of the lines, the soft little moments in the shadowed areas, the large blocks of low values...they allow me areas to dart my eyes to and from while also affording me the ability to rest my attention in certain spaces. To be able to take an average scene such as this and realize its validity and worth as an image is what makes someone an artist. Technical skills can be taught or learned.
