Description
This is the ninth and final painting of this outing of the Parry Sound Group of Painters. The promised clearing had arrived and it was a beauty of a autumn day. Cumulus clouds had developed in the cooler and unstable cold air mass behind the front. These cumulus were transforming into streets of turbulent stratocumulus clouds as I painted. The view was across the island looking eastward to the far shore. The ladies had prepared a fine lunch for us all on the dock. Even though it was midday, it was still a magical time to paint.
This is a small, slippery surface (SSS) withy almost no tooth. Since the oil paint slips around on the panel, the artist needs to mix the colour colour and place it with a minimum of stroking in the right place - leave it there. Fight the urge to re-work the oils or even, heaven forbid, smooth the brush stroke.
