Description
This image combines a handmade Mexican cat figurine, a terra cotta pot, a prickly deep green cactus, and a bottle of good tequila. The cat is looking up over at some distant point that has captured his imagination. His bright folk colors and smooth porcelain texture compliment the rough green texture of the cactus and the hard cold tequila bottle. The image is warm, but the weather is not too hot to sit enjoying the sunshine. Like many of my photographs, this one places a figurine in a natural landscape. I am interested in the juxtapositions between different colors, textures, emotions, and subject matters. I tend to take images that are firmly rooted in a cultural tradition. Many of my photographs feature Asian figurines and themes, because I lived in that part of the world for several years. I hope to bring local cultures, art forms, crafts, and decor from around the world to the homes and offices of people from very different cultural backgrounds. These images can give us windows onto another place and way of living. Or they can be reminders of places and experiences from our own past and our own travels around the corner or around the globe. One of the most important goals for me as a photographer is to tell stories. Different stories can be contained within the frame of a single image, or several frames can be combined into a storyboard that traces a tale, allegory, or transformation. I am always experimenting with new subjects and techniques, so please check back on my portfolio frequently. If you have any questions please feel free to send me a direct message through Fine Art America. Enjoy and thanks for looking!
