"Meuse-Argonne Tribute"

The Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery is managed by the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC). The cemetery is a tribute to the American effort of the Meuse-Argonne Offensive that began September 26, 1918, finally resulting in the end of the Great War. The cemetery covers more than 130 acres and contains 14,246 military dead, nearly all from the offensive.
I captured this shot atop the hill under stormy skies, providing drama to the already-humbling experience. This building contains both the chapel and memorial loggia, which lists the names of 954 missing soldiers. This particular cemetery was particularly poignant to me during our visit to France, as it is the resting place of Gilbert Miller, my wife's grand uncle who died heroically on the first day of the offensive.
