Description
MELT
Standing with my back to the setting sun,
I see - in my own lengthening shadow -
where I've been, how far I've come.
I see the contours of the ground I've covered,
the mountains climbed, the rivers forded.
If I turn toward the light into the new and the now,
the shadows remain always behind me,
shadows of past hurts, failures, dashed hopes,
of who I was that I no longer wish to be - all behind me.
I set my feet bare onto the hot coals of my living,
feel the fire of its passionate intensity
burn its way into my every sinew and bone
and melt, willingly, and with praise
tasting like grace in my mouth,
into the sun that sets the road aflame,
melt into the light and the love
that is my every longing
and my true journey's end.
