Description
Delving deeper into my fascination with symmetrical patterns, I constructed my first more traditional-looking mandala, disregarding any "rules" there might be for mandalas, but just making something that has meaning and feels balanced to me. The design was lined with pen but with the aid of neither ruler nor compass to add that little bit of organic imperfection that makes it more interesting, then over almost three working days the design was coloured with colour pencils, using slightly muted near-complementary colours to add both balance and contrast to the picture.
The mandala contains elements symbolic of eternity, the sun and moon, night and day, the planets, and of the sun's life-giving energy.
