Gresley A4 Pacific Mallard in BR. Brunswick Green livery heads the Down Elizabethan in the last decade of steam operation on the East coast main line. Mallard was, and still is, the engine that holds the World speed record for steam traction of 126mph attained in 1938 and was one of the A4 class of Gresley locomotives that dominated the East Coast London-Edinburgh route for many years right up to the end of steam. Taken from a series of paintings specially commissioned some years ago by my friend John Burgess for use on phonecards.
