Description
The title is in Haitian Creole. The English translation is, "Fresco Merchant". In French, "Le Marchand de Fresco". Fresco is similar to Italian icy. Only the texture and taste are different. It is a sweetened beverage. It is a typical local street ice drink with flavored syrup. A handful of restaurants offer fresco, but it is sold mostly by street vendors. The street vendors commute using a three wheeler's mobile cart-like shop. On his cart he wrote, "L'eternel est mon berger", which translates, "The Lord is my shepherd" from Psalm 23:1. He also wrote: "Haiti Cherie" which proclaims his love for his natal country. The fresco carts are pushed about the streets, all over the country. This ambulant vendor uses his bell to call out for customers. This is a common sight of Haiti's streets. The proud vendor uses a special metallic grate shaped as a triangle box to scrape the block of ice in his cart. Then, he places the grated ice in a disposable plastic cup and sprinkles it with thick, sugary, fruit syrup. The syrup comes in different fruit flavors and different colors. Red could be of strawberry flavor or cherry; green could be of lemon flavor; yellow could be of orange or passion fruit flavor; and white could be of pineapple, coconut, or sour sop. When buying, one designates his flavor's choice by color. Buying a cup of fresco on a hot day is a total unique experience. The sweet smell of this ice candy attracts swarms of honeybees. Worry not! Those bees are more interested in the sweet smell of the syrup then in stinging you.
The fresco street vendor is another ideal entrepreneur! Agree?
