Description
An old 18th Century rice trunk that was located in the ACE Basin of South Carolina about 45 miles south of Charleston on the South Edisto River. This remnant was part of the old rice culture. Built and maintained by slaves, the "rice trunk" was built into the dike to allow for the flow of water into the rice fields on the turn of the tide. The ACE Basin Conservancy has replaced this particular trunk with a new one that "educates" the 21st Century visitor on how it operated.
