Description
This is a grand view of the Los Angeles Basin and Downtown Los Angeles in late evening light. The tall downtown LA buildings are about seven miles from Hollywood Hills at the bottom of the photo.
You may also want to look at the black & white version of this image titled "Los Angeles Skyline And Los Angeles Basin Panorama Monochrome Black And White." It is in my Los Angeles County gallery.
This is a very large stitched panorama (over 10,100 pixels wide) and there is an incredible amount of detail in the image that you cannot see at the size posted here. This image is best viewed large - press Ctrl+ on your keyboard (Command+ on a Mac) to enlarge.
To get a glimpse of the details, zoom in on any part of the photo by left-clicking on it. Just imagine a large print of this image as a wall art for your home, office, business or board room!
If you are from the LA area, you may recognize some of the landmarks. The circular building slightly to the right and below the center is the Capital Records building. If you click just below the red W sign on the right side, you will see the Knickerbocker Hotel in Hollywood, once a playground for Hollywood hot shots but now an apartment building for seniors. If you click on the green sign to the right of the red W, you will see a Broadway Hollywood sign, hailed as a symbol of the rebirth of the community, which has seen some hard times but appears to be on a rebound with project such as the recently renovated Hillview Apartment, the Sunset/Vine residential/retail project, and others bringing new residents and activity to the community.
Along the Downtown LA skyline, are the Union Bank, Bank of America, and Well Fargo Bank buildings. If you click on the second brick-red colored short building to the left of the central tall buildings, you will see the top of the LA City Hall. To the right of it and slightly below is the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion (Music Center) and, further to the right, is the back side of the Walt Disney Concert Hall. If you click below and slightly below the brick-red building mentioned above, you will see spires of a Russian Orthodox Church located near Sunset Boulevard and Western Avenue, a very urban part of Hollywood. On the left edge of the photo, below the bright yellow building, is the Magic Castle on Franklin Avenue, a nightclub for magicians and magic enthusiasts.
In the bottom-left is the Hollywood Freeway, the second oldest freeway in Los Angeles. Interspersed among these landmarks are homes, apartment buildings, hotels, schools, churches, bill boards and wall murals (try to find the murals by left-clicking and zooming in on the image!). As you can tell by looking at the homes, people living in the areas at the bottom of the photo (Hollywood Hills) are more affluent than those in the areas farther away.
