Description
I was blessed to visit Israel's Holy Land in 2012 which inspired this painting. While there, I rode a camel for the very first time which was an awesome experience. The significance of this painting speaks of the Jewish people of Israel. The cactus is compared to Israeli Jews, since it is a thorny desert plant with a thick skin concealing a sweet, soft interior. The pomegranate tree has special meaning to Israeli Jews. Pomegranates are traditional for Rosh Hashanah. Some believe this fruit is the "apple" spoke of in the Garden of Eden. Also, throughout the Bible, pomegranates are symbolic of fertility. The tradition of Kabbalah (school of thought in Judaism), recounts that there are 613 seeds in each pomegranate, equaling the number of Mitzvot (commandments) of God.
