Description
"Lessons to Last a Lifetime" was created from artist Linda Simon with an intended nostalgic feel. The little toe head girl reading the book "Little Women" has a likeness of Ms. Simon's niece, McKenna. This school room resembles one that Ms. Simon's Grandmother Light had attended, and was located about 2 miles up the hill from Linda's childhood home. She remembers seeing it when she would ride her bike out in the country. The small old building had fallen into disrepair, there wasn't much of a roof left and the paint was hardly visible. A big old oak tree had fallen down around it,making it hard to see, camouflaged by tall weeds. It was kind of a scary place until my Grandmother told me it was the School she went to as a child. Her bright smiling eyes told me all I needed to know as she reminisced about a time gone by. The town saved the rural one room school house that held a small group of children of all ages. People chipped in and moved the school into town, where there were other historical buildings to be renovated and displayed. Linda's Grandmother is gone now, but her fond memories are held in that school. No longer is it scary but is as good as new. A reproduction of Lessons to Last a Life Time now hangs in the library of the school Linda attended as a child so many years ago!

What a wonderful painting, and you have captured the nostalgia indeed! I also enjoyed the story to go with the painting, and to read that this schoolhouse has found a happy home. What a lovely story to accompany your artwork. like/f
