Description
I spent the day blissfully painting en plein air on North Merritt Island. I was surrounded all day by natural beauty. As the afternoon clouds moved in, birds grouped and flew to their various roosting sites. The sun dropped low in the sky. A slight breeze stirred gently. I gathered my paints and brushes and put them away in boxes in my van. I drank deeply from a bottle of water, I had brought with me. I realized that I had forgotten to drink for quite awhile. I took my seat behind the driving wheel and slowly drove over dirt roads. Most of them were narrow and winding through the swamps. Tiny little sand crabs marched around the shore waving their big left claws at each other. Roseate spoonbills, egrets, herons, and stilts fed on fish in the shallow water. I was disappointed that it was time to leave my quiet paradise. People and things needed my attention. I needed to eat. As I headed back to a paved road, I noticed the gorgeous setting sun. It was reflecting it's warm colors and light all around me. I noticed a good place to pull over on the beach just before the bridge to the mainland. I jumped out and photographed the sunset. As I turned around, I noticed my own reflection in the window of my van. I snapped one last photograph for the day.

AnnaJo - how I envy you! I wish I have all the time to go to such a lovely place and just paint away from it all!

I understand, Belinda. I always feel a bit naughty when I steal away from my duties and responsibilities...but it makes me better in so many ways.
