The Casino Kursaal or the Kursaal Oostende is a kursaal in the Belgian seaside resort of Ostend. This picture shows the second version of the casino in 1895. In 1940 the Kursaal was destroyed by the German occupiers. It has since been rebuilt but looks quite different but still has a rounded front.
This digital painting is from a photograph taken circa 1895. These great old colorized photographs remember a time gone by. But time has deteriorated many of them. My goal is that through painting them they are restored to life. I hope they touch you as they do me.
