Looks sure can be deceiving. I thought this couple was poor and just scraping by. Living in a old broken down hovel of a house, thought this area was just attracting poor people. When in reality this is more of a summer retreat with ocean front property. So close to the water are they, that they can catch fish from their window.
This place is still in existence today, maybe not this exact room, but maybe.
I wanted the scene to have a homey look, whether these people were rich or not I wanted a mismatched everything look. Collecting cookware over the years, getting a different color each time. It added a touch of color in a rather dark scene, and a bit of fun.
You'll note on the upper right side, a floating hand. I think he's using either a fill flash, or a reflector to get light on her face (they did a good job lighting this). However the hand was blocking whatever that tank was on the wall. And there was no way to fix it, so I took it all out, and left it in the shadows.
Figuring this was morning, I made the window a sunrise sort of look. And also added a little bit of coffee pouring, because this is clearly a set up shot with probably a long exposure.
