Description
The Havanese (Bichon Havanais) is a sturdy little dog. Exceptionally bright and easy to train as alarm dog;loving and cheerful, attractive, charming, playful and even a bit of a clown. He loves children andplays endlessly with them.
This breed comes from the Western Mediterranean region and has developed along the Spanish and Italian coastal region. Apparently, these dogs were imported early in Cuba by ocean navigating Italian captains. Erroneously, the most frequent brown color (tobacco color) has led these dogs to Havana, capital of Cuba, to take as origin.Due to unfortunate circumstances all old Havanese bloodlines in Cuba, however, are extinct;apparently a few dogs could be smuggled out of Cuba;their descendants survive in the United States.
