Description
This beautiful violet colored flower has an unusual connection to the epic war between the Pandavs and Kauravs in the Mahabharata. It is said that the thin, flimsy and serpentine petals on the periphery of the flower denote the 100 Kaurav brothers! Towards the center, the five symmetrically arranged flattened whitish stamens are indicative of the 5 Pandav brothers (who were the cousins of the Kauravs) . The central whitish swollen structure is the wife who's shared by the 5 Pandavs, Draupadi. Lord Krishna is said to assume a position at the top of this bulbous structure as Draupadi and Krishna are said to have been the best of friends and were almost inseparable. Finally, the 3 slender structures arising from it are supposed to signify Lord Shiv, Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma.
