Description
Karyl Matsumoto was elected to the City Council in November 1997 and re-elected in November 2001, 2005 and 2009. She served as Mayor in 2000, 2004 and 2009. Her current term expires November 2013. She is only the second woman in the Citys 104-year history to serve on City Council.
She is a native Californian and has lived in South San Francisco for 29 years. Mayor Pro Tem Matsumoto received her B.S. degree in Business Administration and her career covers multiple work experiences in the public, private and nonprofit sectors. She has held various positions which include Interim National Director of the Japanese American Citizens League; District Director, State Senator Quentin Kopp; Legislative Aide, San Mateo County Supervisor Anna Eshoo; Project Manager, Hayden J. Lee Consultants and Product Coordinator, PPG Industries.
Mayor Pro Tem Matsumoto was recently appointed to Californias Commission for Economic Developments Biotechnology Advisory Committee.

Board Member, City/County Association of Governments (C/CAG)

Her council assignments, ad hoc and program committees include Housing, Kaiser Hospital, Facilities Naming, Farmers Market, Day in the Park, Improving Public Places, New Main Library, Echo Company Marines, Seniors, Skateboard Park, and Conference Authority.
Mayor Pro Tem Matsumoto's community experience includes having served or been a member on over 30 civic and nonprofit boards, commissions and committees such as Notre Dame de Namur Universitys Graduate School of Business Administration Advisory Committee, Peninsula YMCA, San Mateo County Commission on Disabilities, National Association of Parliamentarians.
Diversified revenue streams to ensure quality city services and a fiscally responsible city government are her top priorities. She believes that financial, environmental and developmental sustainability are integral to South San Franciscos vitality. Mayor Pro Tem Matsumoto firmly believes city government should be open, responsive, accountable and transparent.
