Description
The little drawing of the highway disappearing into the countryside reminds me of the many journeys my family took when I was a kid -- to visit my older brother and sister in college, to Chicago, Denver, New York, Georgia to visit Grandma. The landscape in the drawing looks more like a journey to the Navajo Reservation, but I hadn't yet been there when I drew this at age 7. If the perspective seems a little advanced for a seven-year-old, it was probably because Dad had given me a lesson. I have always loved jackrabbits, and here I tried to capture the way they lope along in great ground-eating leaps. Wyoming is famous for its abundant and beautiful jade, found in all colors but my favorite was the deep green with swirls of lighter bluish-green. Dad gave Mom a pendant necklace of this jade, and it fascinated me.
