This lovely yellow and lavender tall-bearded iris (iridaceae) named Knock "Em Dead was photographed at the Presby Memorial Iris Garden in Montclair New Jersey. Knock 'Em Dead was hybridized by Ernst and the year of registration-introcution was 1993. The bloom color of Knock 'Em Dead ranges from pale yellow to bright yellow and the falls from pale lavender to various violet and purple hues with a yellow beard. The American Iris Society honored Knock 'Em Dead with an Honorable Mention and an Award of Merit in the years 1996 and 2000. Presby Memorial Iris Garden is world renowned for its display of thousands of varieties of iris in the spring. Nicknamed The Rainbow on the Hill, the beds do indeed included every possible color that one could imagine, displaying current and historical irises. The gardens and home on the property are now part of the Essex County Park System and are supported by a dedicated group of volunteers. The iris species of flowering plants take the name from the Green word for rainbow, due to the wide variety of flower colors among the many different species.
