Description
This color-enhanced, sagital (from the side), T2 weighted MR image demonstrates a mass (orange-yellow density) involving the nasal septum and the sphenoid sinus. Inverted papillomas usually occur on the lateral nasal wall or middle meatus and may extend into paranasal sinuses. They may contain HPV 6 or 11, possibly with EBV. These are benign epithelial tumors that grow outward in fingerlike projections. About 10% of these tumors are associated with coexistent squamous cell carcinoma. They are locally invasive.
