Description
I discovered this little hidden beach north of Santa Cruz while driving up the famous Highway 1 years ago. One had to climb down a meandering and steep path to get to the small beach but it was so worth it. It was years before I knew the name of this spot, but it's Shark Fin Cove and is just a bit south of Davenport.
That's where I found my little "cave by the sea." I loved the view out to the jagged coastal rocks and the glistening damp cavern walls. There was something so relaxing and peaceful and this spot felt a thousand miles from anywhere.
I've had a few people look at this one over the years and chide me for the danger of going inside a cave by the sea, the chance that a wave could have swamped the inside of it. So, it's worth noting that in truth, the image is purposefully somewhat deceptive. The "cave" was actually a large arch and I was standing on the beach beyond the opening when I captured this view through to the sea beyond.
Reality is a subject sometimes best divorced from art. So this will always remain my little cave by the sea.

Fantastic piece of photography. You would have to be careful taking this one with the tide. Sandy

Thanks everyone and a special thank you to the patron in Santa Cruz who is getting a metal print! I love to hear from buyers once they have their artwork in hand, so please don't be a stranger!

Beautiful landscape! Almost like I'm standing there!
Mark E Tisdale replied:
Appreciated Bob! It definitely takes me back to the moment I was there. Happily. :-)

I love the way this photograph was shot--from the point of view of inside the cave looking to the outside! This effect creates almost what they call in formal landscaping "a vista", or a path in which the eyes follow! Love it! Congrats on your sale!
Mark E Tisdale replied:
Thanks Kimberlee! It's been quite awhile, but I still remember liking the way the light on the sides faded into the foreground. It was as if everything led to the 'outside' view as you said. I'm glad it works for others, too! :-)
