Awesome work of art, Stuart ... such strength ... I love the bold, rich colors ... but where the story comes in is the seemingly deserted feel of the streetscape. My husband's sister lives in a mid-west town that has seen its better days come and go. Boarded up windows, things like that. It obviously used to be a bustling center of local life, but no more. That's the feeling I get from your piece. Though it's not boarded up, it still has a mysteriously vacant and lost feeling. Maybe it's the way you used the light, the looong shadows ... maybe it's just a depiction of early, early morning (which I don't see too much of, lol) as your title suggests, but there's definitely room here for our imaginations to happily wander around a bit.
