Description
Homeless At The Crossing by Sabrina K. Wheeler
Homelessness is the condition of people without a regular dwelling. People who are homeless are most often unable to acquire and maintain regular, safe, secure and adequate housing, or lack fixed, regular, and adequate night-time residence. But it is much more complex than just a simple definition. A home is not just a physical space: it provides roots, identity, security, a sense of belonging and a place of emotional well-being. They carry their few possessions with them, sleeping in the streets, in doorways or on piers, or in another space, on a more or less random basis. Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted 10 December 1948 by the UN General Assembly, contains this text regarding housing and quality of living: Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.
10% of artist proceeds from any sale of --Homeless At The Crossing-- are donated to a local charity benefiting the needs of the homeless.

A sad plight .. & brilliant of you to do this, Sabrina! You are right about the passage in the Declaration that we are all entitled to a roof over our heads. The butterflies here .. reflect the Hope that things will change in a more positive direction one day, for all those like this gentleman :))

Connie, those were my thoughts as I contemplated the artistic direction I wanted to go with this image. Thank you very much for your study of my work.

I love how you have expressed hope in your portrayal of an often hopeless situation by having the texture morph into butterflies, Sabrina - L/F!

Much appreciated, Stephen. I do believe he was taking blankets to give to others also.
