Description
Early one morning in late May of 2014 my husband and I were driving through a lovely semi-rural area from Enfield, Connecticut to Agawam, Massachusetts. As we passed this barn in Suffield, Conn., I let out an excited yip and did the figurative sticking-my-foot-out-the-door to stop the car thing that a lot of passenger-seat photographers have been known to do. As soon as we pulled over, I hopped out, grabbed the camera and dashed back to get a few snaps of this beauty. It was a glorious late spring morning ... the smells of the grasses and the light breezes were mesmerizing.
Even though I was standing on the side of the road at the bottom of a significant hill and looking up ... it really is on a high hill ... and shooting straight into the sun, I felt the sheer architectural magnificence of this structure had to be captured.
It turns out, the barn has a wonderful history and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as the "Hilltop Farm Historic District." The barn was constructed by George Hendee, of Indian Motorcycle fame, in 1914 and was a modern marvel of its time.

Though light conditions that morning and the angle of the shot were iffy, I hoped a bit of editing, including adding a new sky, would enable me to bring to life the beauty of this amazing old dairy barn.
