Description
These are among the first wildflowers to be seen in the Spring. Around here they grow in the hardwood forest where ever sun hits the ground. The flower colors are highly variable (we have about four phases if we look hard) with this blue/purple being one of the more common. They arrive with Bloodroot and Anemones.
The range in North America is basically the Eastern half of USA and Canada.
This picture was taken in Green Lane, Pennsylvania, USA, on March 12, 2011.
