Description
Hundreds of flags lined Cape Girardeau, Missouri's County Park North to commemorate the 14th anniversary of September 11.
It is a 28-year tradition known as the Avenue of Flags. Each of the flags at the memorial represents a Cape veteran who died in war.
A total of 450 flags are flown to represent a deceased Cape Girardeau County veteran of a foreign war or conflict.
All the flags represent a deceased veteran and many of them even maybe came off their coffin," VFW auxiliary member Jerry Hampton said. "They fought and died so you could be here today and with us and with me."
