Description
The Glooscap Trail is a section of Nova Scotia Highway 2 which skirts the shoreline of Minas Basin, an arm of the Bay of Fundy, the home of the world's highest tides. Glooscap was a mythical cultural hero of many Indian tribes, including the Mi'kmaq (Micmac) tribes in Nova Scotia. Among his many deeds, he is supposed to have turned himself into a giant beaver and created five islands in the Bay of Fundy, by slapping his huge tail in the water with enough force to stir up the earth.
The legends make quite interesting reading, and there is an excellent write-up at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glooscap.
Because there is a new high-speed highway which by-passes this beautiful coastal road, it remains a relatively quiet area for camping and other vacation activities.
